A Hong Kong–style coffee shop adorned with charming cat illustrations. The dinner offerings are surprisingly good, especially the scrambled egg with char siu and shrimp rice topping. The dish is flavorful and filling, with creamy eggs that pair well with the savory toppings. Portions are generous, and prices are very affordable, making it a great value for money. The café is also decorated with adorable printed artworks, adding to its unique and welcoming vibes.
Our group of 6 came for dinner and were seated promptly. We tried the Scrambled Egg with Shrimp over Rice, Pork Chop & Chicken Chop set, Noodle Soup with ham (comes in a set with a slice of toast and scrambled egg) and Indomie with Pork Chop and Milk Tea. All the food we tried were yummy, the portion was generous. We especially loved the scrambled egg which was creamy and silky. My children really loved the food and they asked to return so we came back for breakfast on the last day of our trip. There were 11 of us, we got 2 tables and were seated promptly upon arrival. The menu option is different for breakfast. We had the toast with condensed milk, sandwich, satay noodle, noodle soup with ham. The noodles came with a slice of toast and scrambled egg. The filling of the sandwich was generous, we almost couldn't finished it. Overall, the food was good with generous portion, reasonable price, service was prompt.
We got seated quickly on a rainy day. I enjoyed their milk tea and yuan yang. Tomato noodles were okay, but not something I would rave about! Menu was quite extensive so there’s probably something for everyone! Cash only so do take note! We paid 124HKD in total for 2 pax.
**Rating: ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐** Mon Kee Cafe is a gem that truly lives up to its reputation! With a 4.5-star rating on both Tripadvisor and Yelp, it's clear that this place is beloved by many. The food is consistently tasty, and the service, while efficient, might not come with a smile—but who needs smiles when the dishes are this good? One thing to note is the lesser noodle selection compared to the rice combinations. However, the rice dishes more than make up for it with their flavors and variety. Customers appreciate the no-frills environment and moderate prices. The atmosphere is perfect for those looking for a quiet meal with booths that provide some privacy. Whether you're a local or a visitor, Mon Kee Cafe's authentic Hong Kong-style fast food is worth the wait. Get there early or wait until after 13:00 to avoid lines. Overall, a must-visit for anyone craving delicious and simple meals.
5/5 star experience here, every single time (and I've been going to Mon Kee for over 10 years). They serve the BEST fluffy eggs over rice, and their char siu and shrimp are always tender, tasty, and fresh. I actually prefer Mon Kee's egg dish to Japanese omurice because the texture is so much creamier and there is actual flavour in the recipe. Their hot milk tea is also one of the better ones - nice mouthfeel, not watery, strong tea flavour. This is definitely a local Hong Kong experience that should not be missed.
I recently enjoyed breakfast at a local Chinese tea restaurant, and it was a fantastic experience. The food is made to order, ensuring freshness and flavor. The 炒滑蛋 (stir-fried scrambled eggs) was incredibly creamy and comforting, while the Hong Kong-style milk tea was rich and aromatic—a perfect morning combo. The staff were friendly and welcoming and the food is set at reasonable prices
Made to feel very welcome. I don’t speak the language and the waiters English was limited, they tried very hard to give great service. I had the macaroni with tomato soup, sausage, French toast with condensed milk, I believe this is like a traditional Hong Kong breakfast, not sure. Anyway, it was delicious! Recommend this place to western travellers. 2 Adults and 1 small child cost $135 HK around $26 AUS. This includes 2 ice coffees and 1 ice lemon tea.
